Lost in the moment, in time and space

How many followers know where they are in the room when a dance comes to an end? To be lost in the moment, in time and space, is one of the most cleansing and calming experiences I’ve ever known. Experiencing it with a complete stranger seems all the more fulfilling than with a regular partner. It’s the best form of escape from the humdrum of everyday life, the best form of connection with ourselves and others. Having this spoiled by a leader asking a string of questions or giving instructions is a real no-no, at least in my book. I want to feel and be, nothing more and nothing less.

It doesn’t matter if you’re dancing with a man for the first time or the fiftieth time. Being present in the moment and in the music is where it all happens. It doesn’t really matter whose arm is holding you.

  2. You’re right, Jan. But I still find the notion of being able to do this with complete strangers fascinating as it breaks all the boundaries I’ve been used to for so long. Tango equals liberation.
